This is a Pacific type locomotive ordered by South African Railways (SAR)

(visit link)

This class of locomotive was built by three separate manufacturers. This particular engine is one of eight built in the United States by Baldwin Locomotive Works (Builders plate #60825) and delivered in 1929.
The engines original road number was SAR 848 and it performed passenger service in South Africa for many years. Eventually it was sold for industrial use in the Wankie Colliery in what was then known as Rhodesia.
The locomotives are reported to have served until retirement in the early 1980's.
