The garden design
The style of the garden is akin to the great promenade of parks in the Edo period (sixteenth century). The garden design is based on four main principles:
Water is the main element of the design since it occupies about 3 / 10th of the landscaped area,
Circulating water must pass through the garden east to west: this is the direction of flow of the river "the Monk" in the park,
The pond is considered the "heart" of the garden. It is located in the middle of the park, it's the most work and the most sensitive place,
Two islands are located on the pond, are the islands of paradise, or islands immortal beings, called Island of the crane and Turtle Island.
A garden processing, clock and seasons of life
Water circulation is oriented from east to west: it symbolizes the path of the sun but also the life of a man from birth to death, and between the two periods, many changes and developments that may suffer all elements and living things (plants, water, men).
The stream running through the garden Pagoda can be compared to the cycle of life, every step of the rivers evokes a particular period, and symbolism (eg the extent of the lake is old age and retirement, made a period of wisdom, serenity, knowledge and experience).
The vegetation is rich with about 400 species, made from plants to spring flowering, summer-flowering or taking interesting colors in the fall, and persistent. In this way, all seasons are marked and there is throughout the year a "garden of transformation" which symbolizes the different stages of life (eg flowering and plant development in spring is birth and Youth).

A garden full of symbols
Some elements in the park are typical of Japanese gardens, and have a very strong symbol. Some examples:
The red color of the bridge and the torii, located on the island of the crane, points out the importance and sacredness of this place
The name given to the paradise islands, island of the crane and Turtle Island, is the principle of yin and yang harmony between two opposing beings
If Khmer elements, brought by Alexandre Marcel following the Universal Exhibition of 1900, are not typically Japanese, they reinforce the exoticism and symbolism of the garden.
La conception du jardin
Le style du jardin s'apparente aux grands parcs de promenade de la période EDO (XVIème siècle). La conception du jardin est basée sur 4 grands principes :
L'eau est l'élément principal de la conception puisqu'elle occupe environ 3/10ème de la surface paysagée,
Une circulation d'eau doit traverser le jardin d'est en ouest : telle est l'orientation du cours de la rivière « la Moine » dans le parc,
La pièce d'eau est considérée comme le « cœur » du jardin. Elle est située au milieu du parc, c'est l'endroit le plus travaillé et le plus sensible,
2 îles sont situées sur la pièce d'eau, ce sont les îles du paradis, ou îles des êtres immortels, appelées île de la grue et île de la tortue.
Un jardin de transformation, horloge des saisons et de la vie
La circulation d’eau est orientée d’est en ouest : elle symbolise la course du soleil mais aussi la vie d’un homme, de la naissance à la mort, et, entre ses deux périodes, les nombreuses transformations et évolutions que peuvent subir tous les éléments et les êtres vivants (végétaux, eau, hommes).
Le cours d’eau qui traverse le jardin de la Pagode peut être comparé au cycle de la vie : chaque étape de ce cours d’eau évoque une période particulière, et son symbolisme (ex : l’étendue du lac représente la vieillesse et la retraite, une période faite de sagesse, de sérénité, de connaissances et d’expérience).
La végétation est riche d’environ 400 espèces, composée de plantes à la floraison printanière, à floraison estivale ou prenant des couleurs intéressantes à l’automne, et de persistants. De cette manière, toutes les saisons sont marquées et l’on note au fil de l’année une « transformation du jardin » qui symbolise les différentes étapes de la vie (ex : la floraison et le développement des végétaux au printemps représente la naissance et la jeunesse).

Un jardin chargé de symboles
Certains éléments présents dans le parc sont typiques des jardins japonais, et ont un symbole très marqué. Quelques exemples :
La couleur rouge du pont et du torii, situé sur l’île de la grue, signale l’importance et le caractère sacré de ce lieu
Le nom donnés aux îles du paradis, île de la grue et île de la tortue, représente le principe du yin et du yang, une harmonie entre 2 êtres opposés
Si les éléments khmers, apportés par Alexandre Marcel suite à l’exposition universelle de 1900, ne sont pas typiquement japonais, ils renforcent l’exotisme et le symbolisme du jardin.
