Nachod town is located very close to the international border with Poland. Before 1938, however, this today Poland territories belonged to Nazi Germany.

The Czechoslovak government built a system of border fortifications, as well as some fortified defensive lines inland, from 1935 to 1938 as a defensive countermeasure against the rising threat of Nazi Germany. The objective of the fortifications was to prevent the taking of key areas by an enemy (not only Germany but also Hungary) by means of a sudden attack before the mobilization of the Czechoslovak army could be completed, and to enable effective defense until allies (Britain and France and possibly the Soviet Union) could help.

The border was very heavily fortified by series of the fortresses (visit link) , the infantry blockhouses (visit link) and the pilboxes.

This model of the fortification of Nachod town is located in Nachod Regional Museum (visit link) and it represents northern-east part of Náchod with the infantry blockhouses N-S 86 (code name "Havlícek") (visit link) N-S 84 (code name "Voda") (visit link) , N-S 83 (code name "Lázne") and N-S 82 (code name "Brezinka") (visit link) .
