The marker has been erected by the Lions Club of Alice Springs. The Club celebrated its 50 years of existence on September 20th 2014. Up until 2012 it has been involved into the annual Alice Springs Lasseters Camel Cup and is still involved in many other community service projects and events.
"The John Flynn Memorial Uniting Church was designed by architect Arthur Philpott and built to commemorate John Flynn for his tremendous achievements for the people of the outback. These achievements include the creation of the Australian Inland Mission and the Royal Flying Doctor Service." (
