(eng) This fountain was erected by the government of the United States of America in recognition of the role played in the First World War , more than 640,000 members of the "Services of Supply " (SOS - Support Service ), whose work the back allowed the brilliant victories troops in the field .
During the Great War , the "Services of Supply " Americans were responsible for providing continuous men , equipment and ammunition for an American expeditionary force of 2 million men in Europe.
The four characters on the monument symbolize the four main divisions of SOS : administration, procurement, construction and distribution.
The headquarters of SOS was established in Tours.
The memorial is maintained by "The American Battle Monuments Commission " ( Commision American Battle Monuments ) , a government agency of the United States of America.
