St Mary - the Virgin, Anglican Church built in a 'Gothic style' 1927, is about 2.5 km away from the small sawmill town of Herons Creek. It has recently been refurbished and 'swapped hands'. Now known as Herons Creek Heritage Community Chapel

Mary the Virgin' Church, Herons Creek 1927
- First service 21st February 1926
- Land given by Mrs Emily Baker
- Timber donated by local residents and milled at the Longworth mill in Laurieton, free of charge.
- Cost 400. Raised by the local community.
- Builder - local carpenter Harry Rose.
Fellowship originally began in the homes of locals Baker, Duck & Wade, later at a private hall on the Latham's property until a decision to build in 1925.
Dedicated 27th September 1927 by Bishop of Newcastle, Rt Revd. Reginald Stephen & Revd. John Henry Sutton Oldham (officiating Minister). Organist was Miss Mary Hughes with a 16 voice choir.
Extra land generously donated by the Boyd family in 1994
The Church was re-opened on the 26th November 2011 as a church, a place for community gatherings & weddings.

"Due to the wonderful stands of timber, Herons Creek was settled in 1875. Logs (were) carted by bullocks, barges, (and) later by horses, trucks & rail."
