Tomülpass - Safien, GR, Switzerland - Scenic Hikes on Waymarking.com

The hiking trail over Tomülpass leads from Turrahus, south of Thalkirch in Safien valley over Tomülpass to the center of Vals. The hike has a lenght of something over 13 kilometers and takes about five hours walking time.

The starting point is on 1694 meters above sea level, then it leads up to the pass on 2412 meters, the way down to Vals on 1252 meters is very steep in the lower end, there is an alternative to take a agricultural road for the last half hour, this is much easier but longer, of course. The hike can also be done in the opposite direction, then it takes more than half an hour longer.

This hike offers some great views over the Grisons Alps, with mountain peaks, waterfalls, alpine rivers and plants and animals. The route does not touch any inhabited place, so there are no shortcuts and no possibilities to get other food than what you take with you.

This trail was created by Polish soldiers in the early 1940s, who were interned in Switzerland during World War II.

There are regular pubic buses to both ends of the trail, but to Turrahus only a few per day, so better check the timetables first. Or spend the night in Turrahus, and start the hike early in the morning.
