On the Moselle Esplanade, 3 steel steles commemorate the signing of the Schengen Agreement in 1985 and 1990. If the wine village of Schengen was selected for the agreements signing ceremony is due to its location on the border of France, Germany and the Benelux Economic Union (ie the first five signatories of the protocol).
We owe to Goethe Schengen representation as the cradle of liberty; it is here that Victor Hugo dreamed of his United States of Europe.
Sur l’Esplanade de la Moselle, 3 stèles en acier commémorent la signature des Accords de Schengen en 1985 et 1990. Si le village viticole de Schengen a été sélectionné pour la cérémonie de signature des Accords, c’est en raison de sa situation géographique à la frontière de la France, de l’Allemagne et de l’Union économique Benelux (soit les cinq premiers signataires du protocole).
On doit à Goethe une représentation de Schengen en tant que berceau de la liberté; c’est en ce lieu que Victor Hugo a rêvé à ses Etats Unis d’Europe.
