Arraiolos is a charming little town in Southern Portugal. In a park in its center once will spot this statue. It representsJoaquim Heliodoro da Cunha Rivara, a man of science who was born here in 1809.

"Joaquim Heliodoro da Cunha Rivara (23 June 1809 in Arraiolos – 20 February 1879 in Évora) was a Portuguese physician, professor, intellectual and politician. He excelled as a scholar of the history of the Portuguese presence in India and as a champion of the Konkani language."
The statue is made of bronze. It is actually a bust in real life scale placed on a plinth of dark stone which is surrounded by a block of light stone with the inscription:
