In Sharpsburg, in the center of the village, is a red brick building that once was the meeting hall for the local lodge of the Improved Order of Red Men.
The building is on Main Street in the community, on the southeast side of the road. There is a small grassy area in front.
The building is a brick structure Two stories tall. There are two doors - one to the library and one to the town hall. There are light colored stone arches over the doors. The windows have yellowish brick above the windows and were adorned with black shutters. At the top are the letters, "I.O.R.M." The cornerstone has the following:
"Cherokee No. 211 I.O.R.M.
Organized Oct. 17. 1866.
Built Nov. 11. 1911."
The link for the application for the National Register of Historic Places provides a very detailed account of the building. The application also noted that there was a marking on a map in 1877 prior to this building's construction date for an earlier lodge building for the lodge, made of wood.
I didn't find much about the local lodge. I don't think they are meeting there, now.
