This synagogue was built between 1576 and 1580 and in 2007 was a candidate to the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The architect of this synagogue was Santi Gucci, who, invited by Rabbi Mordechai Yaffe, designed a wooden building for Grodno.
The original synagogue was destroyed by fire in 1902 and a new one appeared on the same spot.
Nowadays it's partially being used and just as a museum.
