Pobieda can be translated as Victory. This is the name of this interesting cinema build immediately after the Second World War (1945?) on a spot where used to be a factory before the destruction caused by the bombings. We can dig a bit further the history of this specific spot: in the 17th Century there was a church, part of a Catholic Benedictine monastery, which was closed in 1872, and then adapted as an Orthodox Monastery.

Back to the cinema, its opening took place on November 6th, 1950, right on time to commemorate the anniversary of the Russian October Revolution. For the first time in Belarus, this theater was equipped with a wide screen. In the cinema, there were three rooms (a large hall with 606 seats to display widescreen movies, a small one with 118 places for documentaries and another large one with 610 seats).

Today the building is included in the list of historical and cultural heritage of the Republic of Belarus as a monument of architecture of the mid twentieth century.
