The priest Wiktor Niemczyk was born in 1898 and died in 1980. He led the first service in Polish after the Second World War and he was actively involved in the restoration of Wroclaw University. He translated the most popular Protestant edition of the Bible.
The plaque is placed on the wall of a Lutheran Church in the center of Wroclaw. It features a text about the life of the man, in Polish and in English, as well as a picture of him. This is the text:
"Theological and evangelical clergyman. Organized ecclesiastical life of Polish Lutherans in Wroclaw and Lower Silesia. As the first pastor of the Providence Church he led the first service in Polish after WW II on August 5th 1945. Involved in the restoration of Wroclaw University. Organizer and the first Rector of Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw (1965-1965). In the years 1964-1975 he was one of translators of the Warsaw Bible, the most popular Polish Protestant translation of the Holy Bible.
