The elegant Bloom Fountain in the Vicksburg Memorial Rose Garden esplanade has been a spot of art and beauty since 1926. It is a contributing structure to the Uptown Vicksburg Historic District.

Water flows very slowly from the cup held by the Goddess Hebe, which drips into a larger water bowl beneath her feet. It is hard to see in the photos, but we can attest that this is a working fountain as of 01 Sep 2014.

The Uptown Vicksburg Historic District is comprised of 86 contributing buildings and structures within a rectangular district in downtown Vicksburg roughly bounded by Washington Street on the west, South Street on the south, Locust Street on the east, and Clay Street on the north. The Uptown Vicksburg Historic District was listed on the US National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

From the Mississippi Department of Archives and History website, the listing for the Bloom Fountain as a contributing stricture in the Uptown Vicksburg Historic District: (visit link)

"In Greek mythology, Hebe is the goddess of youth. She is the daughter of Zeus and Hera. Hebe was the cupbearer for the gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus, serving their nectar and ambrosia, until she was married to Heracles (Roman equivalent: Hercules); her successor was Zeus' lover Ganymede. Another title of hers, for this reason, is Ganymeda. She also drew baths for Ares and helped Hera enter her chariot."
