The Eastern Cemetery is 23 hectares large, with large thousands of tombs, let's say, 10.000, and opened in 1952 close to a site where German soldiers fallen during the Second World War already existed.

Since then it has been the burial place of the finest figures in Belarus. Some relevant graves: former First Secretary of the Belarusian Communist Party Petr (Pyotr) Masherov (1918-1980), writers Vasil Bykov (1924-2003) and Vladimir Korotkevich (1930-1984), sculptor Zair Azgur (1908-1995), Soviet partisan Elena Mazanik, who killed the Nazi governor of occupied Belarus, Wilhelm Kube. There is also a section of Jewish graves.

Since 2003 the cemetery is not accepting further burials, although there are a few exceptions.

To reach the place, one should take the metro, get in the Moskovskaya metro line in direction to Vostok station. The cemetery is on the north side of the road and is impossible to miss.
