The full title of this Oddfellows is "Independent Order of Odd Fellows Club and Institute, Manchester Unity" and the Branch name is Cinque Ports Warden District Branch. The local group first met in a lodge (belonging to United or Ancient Order of Oddfellows) at the Fox Inn on St. James Street, in 1800, with a fundraiser to pool money for the eventual use to assiste the members in cases of sickness and death.
Ten years later, a group broke away from the United Order of Oddfellows and created the Manchester Unity, and on 24 July 1843, the Cinque Ports Warden Lodge joined that branch. By 1874 the branch boasted 1,000 members. Meetings continued to be held at Fox Inn and other locations until funds were raised to purchase some land in 1866, and by 1885 the current building was built.
