It is only a 0.75 mile hike up a very rough old road a to St. Mary's Glacier. Start your hike at these coordinates: N39 49.624 W105 38.607. There is a beautiful lake (St. Mary's Lake) which catches the water that melts in the glacier. The views of nearby peaks are spectacular. If you are lucky, you might get to watch someone snowboard or ski down the glacier...even in August! If you attempt to walk on the glacier, use extreme caution. It is ice and it is slippery.

If you are interested in the local history, check out this link: (visit link) Over approximately the last 150 years, the area has gone from mining to recreation.
