EN: The University of Bern is a public university with eight faculties and some 160 institutes. The university was founded in 1834, but has precursors in a theological college dating from the 16th century, which was expanded in 1805 to an academy with four faculties. It currently has about 16,000 students and about 400 professors.

Unlike many other universities, Bern does not have a single large campus, the University is spread over many buildings in the city. Most of them are located in the Länggass ditrict. For the intelligent and sustainable use of old industrial buildings, the University of Bern has won several awards.

The listed main building of the university was inaugurated in 1903 and is located in an elevated position north of the station. The building was designed by architects Alfred Hodler and Edward Joos and one of the last great representative buildings in the style of the 19th century in Bern.

Das denkmalgeschützte Hauptgebäude der Universität wurde 1903 eingeweiht und befindet sich an erhöhter Lage nördlich des Bahnhofs. Das Bauwerk wurde von den Architekten Alfred Hodler und Eduard Joos entworfen und zählt zu den letzten grossen Repräsentativbauten im Stil des 19. Jahrhunderts in Bern.
