This monument was raised to celebrate the 375th anniversary of the founding of New Sweden. The Kalmar Nyckel transported the first colonists to New Sweden
Another monument featuring the Kalmar Nyckel, by sculptor Carl Milles, is in Fort Christina Park, Wilmington DE. Wilmington has been Kalmar's sister city since 1963.
