Le Couperon Guardhouse was built in 1689 and down the years was extended and modified.

Jersey is part of the ancient Duchy of Normandy, is situated close to France but is a British Crown Dependency. Over the years France had tried to invade the island and Jersey built a variety of defensive positions.
An information board on the wall of the building has the following information.
It was built of local stone, with
brick lintels. It was used to
store the powder and
accommodate the militia gun
crews who served the cannon
in the battery on the headland
above. In 1812 the battery
housed two 24-pounder
cannon. This was an open
battery although the low wall
is no longer visible; its guns
commanded the bay.
The guardhouse is also very close to a megalithic dolmen dating from 3250 B.C.
