Der Elbpavillion wurde 1792 nach den Entwürfen von Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmansdorff auf Wunsch von Fürst Franz von Anhalt-Dessau errichtet. Dieser Pavillon ist eines der charakteristischen Bauwerke für die „Landesverschönerung“ des Fürsten Franz von Anhalt-Dessau. Der Leitspruch des Fürsten „Das Nützliche mit dem Schönen“ trifft auch auf den Elbpavillon zu. Denn als ein Bestandteil des damals ausgebauten Hochwasserschutzsystems war er von großem Nutzen. Von seinem Belvedere aus konnte man die Gefahren abschätzen, die von den Überflutungen der Elbe ausgingen. Hier wurden auch Geräte zum Deichschutz eingelagert und Wachmannschaften fanden eine beheizbare Unterkunft.
The Elbpavillion was established in 1792 according to designs by Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmansdorff at the request of Prince Franz of Anhalt-Dessau. This pavilion is one of the characteristic structures for the "country beautification" of Prince Franz of Anhalt-Dessau.
