ASU's School of Life Sciences has a herbarium located at 734 W Alameda Drive in Tempe, AZ, two miles west of the Tempe campus. The collection is kept in a building with other university offices. There is no indication on the outside that there is a herbarium within, but a phone call to the School of Life Sciences confirmed the location. The herbarium contains vascular plants and also an extensive collection of lichen. It is the second largest herbarium in the Southwest (founded in 1910) and has over 300,000 mounted specimens.
It is closed every summer, but even during the school year it is only open to scholars who need to use the collection. Its database is searchable online to anyone.
