There are five very well labeled official city walks in Basel. They all start and end at this information sign opposite the town hall at Marktplatz.
The five walks are named after five famous Basel citizens of the past and are a bit themed after them, but all walks cover historic and contemporary places, museums, churches and great views. Each walk has a different sign, a colored portait of the walk's namesake on a blue plaque. They are easy to follow.
Erasmus Walk: Red signs, walking time approx. 30 minutes.
Jacob Burckhard Walk: light blue signs, walking time approx. 45 minutes.
Thomas Plattner Walk: yellow signs, walking time approx. 45 minutes.
Paracelsus Walk: grey signs, walking time approx. one hour. This walk has many steps and steep inclines, it is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.
Hans Holbein Walk: green signs, walking time approx. 90 minutes.
