EN: Hotel Les Trois Rois (The Three Kings) is located right next to Mittlere Rheinbrücke. It is one of the oldest and most luxurious hotels in Switzerland. The inn of the Three Kings was first mentioned in 1681, a completely unproven founding legend however, dates its predecessors back to the year 1026.
The present building was built in 1844 by Amadeus Merian in the style of the Belle Époque, while older masonry was partly used in the construction. In the following 160 years the hotel has been repeatedly remodeled and expanded.
The hotel accommodated many famous guests, including Napoleon Bonaparte, Queen Elizabeth II, Pablo Picasso, Thomas Mann and Theodor Herzl.
In 2004, the Three Kings was purchased by industrialist Thomas Straumann, he let it carefully restore and put back in the original condition of 1844. Since its reopening in 2006, the hotel has officially the French name Les Trois Rois.
DE: Das Hotel Les Trois Rois befindet sich gleich bei der Mittleren Rheinbrücke. Es ist eines der ältesten und luxuriösesten Hotels der Schweiz. Der Gasthof zu den Drei Königen wurde erstmals 1681 erwähnt, eine völlig unbewiesene Gründungslegende geht aber über Vorgänger bis auf das Jahr 1026 zurück.
Das heutige Gebäude wurde 1844 von Amadeus Merian im Stil der Belle Époque gebaut, dabei wurde teilweise älteres Mauerwerk weiterverwendet. In den folgenden 160 Jahren wurde das Hotel immer wieder umgebaut.
Das Hotel beherbergte viele bekannte Gäste, darunter Napoleon Bonaparte, Königin Elisabeth II., Pablo Picasso, Thomas Mann oder Theodor Herzl.
2004 wurde das Drei Könige vom Industriellen Thomas Straumann gekauft, der es sorgfältig restaurieren und in den originalen Zustand von 1844 versetzen liess. Seit der Wiedereröffnung 2006 trägt das Hotel offiziell den französischen Namen Les Trois Rois.
