Im Jahr 2002 ereignete sich die große Jahrhundert Flit der Elbe. Besonders drastisch ist das Ganze, da die Mulde ebenfalls extremes Hochwasser führte.
In Dessau wo sich beide Flüsse vereinen, verfehlten sich die beiden Hochwasserscheitel nur um Stunden.
Bei diesem Hochwasser wurde die Goitsche in Bitterfeld geflutet und der Dessauer Vorort Waldersee stand komplett unter Wasser.

In Dessau, where both rivers unite, the two flood peaks missed by only hours.
