"La tomba di Rolandino de' Passeggeri venne edificata tra il 1300 e il 1306 e, nonostante i danni provocati da una bomba nel 1943 e dai numerosi interventi di restauro che mirarono a preservarla nel tempo, il suo assetto attuale corrisponde sostanzialmente a quello originale, certo in linea con la tradizione, ma «con uno spicco così netto e carattere tale da riuscire in larga misura nuovo».
