In Jamestown, at the southern tip of Beavertail State Park, is this orientation table for the view of the mouth of Narragansett Bay and the open Atlantic Ocean.

The sign is located next to Beavertail Light, which stands guard at the point of Conanicut Island, which is the entire town of Jamestown. It is also within Beavertail State Park, which, at the time of visit (May 2014), had no admission. From the entrance at the park, follow the main road to a parking lot within sight of the light, and walk from there. The road also goes by this location (but no parking). The sign is in the lawn of the lighthouse, on the other side of the road from the rocks.

The sign is oriented toward the southwest, looking out toward the western shore of the bay. The sign has the following introductory text:

"You are looking at the West Passage, one of two entrances to Narragansett Bay, New England's largest estuary. There are over 30 islands in the Bay. There is very little commercial shipping in the West Passage since it is much shallower than the East Passage..."

Points include:

1. Block Island
2. Point Judith Light
3. Town of Narragansett
4. Whale Rock Light
5. Bonnet Shores Beach Club
6. University of Rhode Island, Narragansett Campus.

At the time of visit, the visibility was fair. Block Island and Point Judith Light were not visible at all and other points lacked detail. It was bad enough that the foghorn nearby was going off...LOUDLY!
