Trail construction by the Victoria Motorcycle Club originally began in 2007. Later, the Tansky Recreation Site was officially established by the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations on September 15, 2011, making the area a designated provincial recreation area. The Recreation Site is owned by the Province of British Columbia, but permission has been obtained for off-road motorcycle and ATV use. The BC Off-Road Motorcycle Association (BCORMA), the Victoria Motorcycle Club, and the Friends of Tansky now manage the trails. The area contains more than 50 km of trails, making it the largest official riding area on Vancouver Island. The difficulty of most of the trails is intermediate or higher and includes many former logging roads interconnected by single-tracks.

The coordinates point to the main parking area about 350 m up North Main. Camping is available at China Beach Provincial Park, just across West Coast Road from the start of North Main.
