This rest area, located at the summit of Chinook Pass is MUCH more beautiful than your average rest stop. It sits at the edge of Mt. Rainier NP and looks out over a glacial valley. Behind the area is an access point to the Pacific Crest Trail and to Sheep Lake. The Highway is closed through the Winter but is a great place for picnic, camping, and hiking over the summer. About 1 mile from this rest stop is another at Tipsoo Lake that has views of Mt. Rainier and a beautiful little lake surrounded by a wildflower meadow. I'll have to waymark that the next time I'm up on Hwy 410.
