Fürst Leopold I., auch der Alte Dessauer gennant, gilt als eine der bedeutenst Personen, die die Stadtentwicklung entscheidend beienflusst haben. Ihm zu ehren wurde 2004 das erste Leopoldsfest ausgerichtet. Seitdem findet es nun jedes Jahr in der Stadt Dessau statt. Leider wurde dieses Fest in den Jahren 2012 und 2013, zum Jubiläum von Anhalt 800 und Dessau 800 ausgesetzt. Das Fest erstreckt sich von dem alten Stadtschloss bis zum Stadtpark.
