TEXT OF MEMORIAL: “Erected by the citizens of this vicinity in honor of those who served their country in the Civil, Spanish American, and World Wars”.
This memorial is located in Plum Creek Cemetery in Plum Borough, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. One entire side of the memorial (not photographed) is devoted to the Civil War. A small section of the photographed side is devoted to the veterans of the Spanish American War. The remainder is devoted to the World War. There is no date on the monument and an Internet search did not turn up any information on this monument. There is no indication of World War II on the monument. As such the monument must have been erected after World War I but prior to World War II. However, the new condition of the base of the monument and the pristine condition of the bronze plaque would indicate that monument was recently erected. We theorize that plaque may have been in an indoor location and recently moved to its current location. There is a Civil War era cannon mounted on a stone base that likewise appears to have been placed relatively recently.
For those who like cemeteries, Plum Creek is a beautiful cemetery with many interesting headstones, some with very poignant tributes.
