Die Bibliothek wurde 1898 als “Städtische Volksbücherei” gegründet und ist seit 1922 “Anhaltische Landesbücherei”.
Die Hauptbibliothek, zeitweilig auch “Stadtbibliothek” genannt, ist seit 1962 im früheren Palais Waldersee in der Zerbster Straße 10 untergebracht
2011 verzeichnete die Anhaltische Landesbücherei einen Bestand von 212.210 Bände/Medieneinheiten, sowie 5.026 Nutzer an allen vier Standorten. Es wurden 197.635 Besucher und 316.000 Entleihungen gezählt.
The library was founded in 1898 as "Municipal public library" and since 1922 "Anhalt Regional Library". </ P>
