Le site du Veillon, en Vendée, (dénommé aussi parfois l'Anse de la République) est réputé pour son ichnofaune à traces tridactyles de dinosauriens bipèdes. Il s'agit d'un des plus importants gisements ichnologiques d'Europe.
Les empreintes se rencontrent en effet par milliers et sur plusieurs niveaux dans une série argilo-gréseuse puis carbonatée intercalée entre le substratum cristallophyllien et le Pliensbachien transgressif.
Mais ce lieu présente bien d'autres aspects qui pourront intéresser le géologue ou le naturaliste.
The site Veillon, in Vendée, (also sometimes called Anse de la République) is renowned for its ichnofauna to kittiwakes traces of bipedal dinosaurs. This is one of the most important European ichnological deposits.
Fingerprints are found by the thousands and indeed on several levels in a series clayey sandstone and carbonate sandwiched between the substrate and the transgressive crystallophyllian Pliensbachian.
But this place has many other aspects that may be of interest geologist or naturalist.
