Folk culture is the quintessence of the uniqueness of each nation and has often been described as a treasury of culture from which a nation can draw at the times of distress and hardship. It constitutes a link with history, and the life of the generations that had lived here before us. There are different ways in which the wealth of folk culture can be pre-served, among them the popular open-air museums of folk architecture, offering a comprehensive view of thelife of past generations.

Since 1972, East Bohemia has boasted a large open-air collection of folk architecture scattered in Veselý Kopec, and Svobodné Hamry, isolated settlements belonging to the village of Vysocina, and in the town of Hlinsko. Apart from examples of folk architecture and documents of petty farmers' and artisans lifestyles and work, the exposition offers a wide range of programs familiarising visitors with the skills of these artisans as well as beauty and poetry of folk customs.

Dovecote is located close to entrance to Open-Air Museum.
