This bronze bridge in Vértanúk tere (Martyrs' square) has a statue of Imre Nagy standing in the middle of the bridge.

The bridge is part of a monument dedicated to Imre Nagy. "During the time that Hungary was part of the Soviet bloc, he was a politician who was appointed Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the People's Republic of Hungary on two occasions.
The second occasion was during the anti-Soviet revolution in 1956. Soon he moved toward a multiparty political system.
Nagy was secretly tried, found guilty, sentenced to death and executed by hanging in June 1958. His trial and execution were made public only after the sentence had been carried out.
In 1989 Hungary became independent and later this bridge and statue was erected. The statue is about 1.5 times life size and shows him wearing an overcoat and hat and he is carrying an umbrella on his arm as he leans on the parapet of the bridge.
He is facing the Hungarian Parliament building and it is said that it symbolizes his getting the nation halfway to freedom."

Although the bridge has no real function many people walk across it to look at the statue. However being made from bronze it is very slippery and depending on the type of footwear worn for many people it necessary to cling tightly to the hand rail.
