The medieval settlement 'Föveny' (at the location of today's Tác, on the eastern part of the Sárvíz) fall into Turkish hands in the 16th century and has been destroyed. This territory was used as a vineyard and plough-land. The sources of the 18th century tell about roman stone monuments. In the age of Joseph II., the land surveying showed big wall remains in this territory. In the 19th century Flóris Rómer (the main organizer of Hungary's first excavations) described this territory as rich in funds. He wrote about big walls, which would belong to a military post. The first excavations were between 1934 and 1939. The archaeologists found a three-apse-building, which was considered first as a Christian basilica, after finding a big courtyard, they thought about a villa in the middle of a latifundium. The excavations of the 200-acre-territory began in 1958. The archaeologists wanted to find a complete Roman settlement with its surroundings and graveyards.
