[E] To avoid flooding on the city of Tours Cher's river has been channeled in the 60s.
An artificial island was then created and named "Honoré de Balzac" in tribute to one of the most famous writers of Touraine.
Dams were installed on each side of the island and a basin for canoe and kayak was envisaged as Olympic site during two candidatures of the City of Paris for the Olympics Games'organisation. After the French capital has not been selected, the project was delayed.
It was finally released in 2011 and a fish ladder was installed to allow eels and shad navigate up the Cher.
[F]Pour éviter les inondations de la Ville de Tours le Cher a été canalisé dans les années 60.
Une ile artificielle fut alors créée et baptisée « Honoré de Balzac » en hommage à l’un des plus célèbres écrivains de Touraine.
Des barrages ont été installés de chaque côté de l’Ile et un bassin de canoë-kayak a été envisagé comme site Olympique lors de deux candidatures de la Ville de Paris aux Jeux Olympiques. La capitale française n’ayant pas été sélectionnée, le projet sera retardé.
Il verra finalement le jour en 2011 et une passe à poissons sera installée pour permettre aux anguilles et aux aloses de remonter le Cher.
