The fountain is located in Piazza Solferino, which is a square in the historic center of Turin. The angelic fountain, built in 1930 and consists of four groups of statues that refer to the four seasons. It was intended by the mayor Riccardo Cattaneo. It was built thanks to the minister of finance Paul Baiotti and named after the latter's mother (Angelica Cugiani). First it was decided to place it in front of the Cathedral of Turin in Piazza San Giovanni, was then chosen the Piazza Solferino, which was a better place to contain it.
Fontana Angelica is situated in Piazza Solferino, was inaugurated on October 28, 1929 thanks to the legacy of Paul Bajnotti, Minister of the Kingdom of Italy. In his will he left the city of Turin 150,000 Pounds for the construction of a fountain called Angelica, located in Piazza San Giovanni, and bearing an inscription dedicated to his parents. In 1920 the commission for the construction of Fontana recognized Piazza Solferino as more suitable place for the fountain. This change of position forced the sculptor Giovanni Riva to modify essential elements of the statue to keep the esoteric details of the construction. The original position wanted the fountain would owe to the east; moving the statue, it was necessary to change the point of view of the two male statues Winter and Autumn, named as Boaz and Jaquim. The two giants Jaquim and Boaz, are the guardians of the Pillars of Hercules. Boaz represents darkness and ignorance, turns his gaze to the east where the sun rises in the direction of Jaquim, the other male statue that represents perfection, light, knowledge. Boaz and Jaquim hold the bottles from which the water flows that symbolizes the knowledge with which human beings are watered. Between the two male figures found an opening that is perfectly smooth the transition towards the knowledge guarded by Boaz and Jaquim beyond which there is something unknown to us. Spring and Summer are the two female statues on either side extremes of the fountain. Spring is the virtue, knowledge of the sacred reserved for the initiated few. Summer is the vice, secular knowledge, revealed to all but hidden by the symbols.
