This statute of the Great Emancipator portrays in his last days. The thin war-worn President in thoughtful and deep meditation and is considered one of the finest bronze statutes ever made of President Lincoln. It was created by one of America’s most foremost sculptures. Andrew O’Connor, who also did the statute of Lincoln which now stands in front of the State house in Springfield, Illinois. It was cast by the Gorham Manufacturing Company of Providence, Rhode Island in the most permanent medium that nature has given man, enduring bronze. The statute sits in the middle of Historic Fort Lincoln Cemetery. The cemetery was also the site of Jamison battery of Fort Lincoln. The statute of Lincoln sits mournfully overseeing the graves of many citizens buried in the cemetery. The look on Lincoln’s face is sad, but a reminder of one of the countries most historic figures. Time has made the statute develop a green patina. Located in Fort Lincoln Cemetary, it is open 364 days a year. Open 8:00 a.m. to dusk. Check out the original earthworks of Fort Lincoln and many other historic sites on these grounds. This is still a working cemetery. A must see for any Lincoln Enthusiast or Civil War Buff.
