"Nos montes ao redor de Vila Franca do Campo trabalhavam muitos pastores. Num certo dia, alguns deles recolheram-se a uma das grutas ali existentes, para abrigaram-se do mau tempo, encontrando uma imagem de Nossa Senhora. Admirados com o achado, levaram-na para a Igreja Matriz, onde a entregaram ao pároco. No dia seguinte, os pastores encontraram novamente a imagem, na mesma gruta. Reconduzida à Matriz, o fenómeno repetiu-se por alguns dias, até que o povo compreendeu que a imagem desejava ter uma ermida naquele sítio. Os materiais de construção começaram a ser transportados para um local mais abaixo da gruta, lugar mais abrigado dos ventos fortes, iniciando-se os trabalhos. No dia seguinte, entretanto, quando os trabalhadores chegaram para iniciar o dia de trabalho, encontraram o local revirado, e as pedras colocadas no local onde a imagem fora encontrada pela primeira vez. Nesse sítio, então, foi erguida a Ermida de Nossa Senhora da Paz, com o Menino Jesus ao colo, tendo na mão um ramo de oliveira."

"In the hills around Vila Franca do Campo were working many pastors. In one day, some of them moved to one of the existing caves there for shelter in bad weather, finding an image of Our Lady. Amazed at the find, took her to the Mother Church, where they gave it to the priest. The next day, the shepherds found the image again, in the same cave.
Brought back to the Mother Church, the phenomenon repeated itself for a few days, until the people realized that the image desired to have a chapel in that place. The construction materials began to be transported to a place below the cave, more sheltered from strong winds place, and the works started.
The next day, however, when the workers arrived to begin the day's work, found the place overturned, and the stones placed in the location where the image was found for the first time. At that site was then erected the Chapel of Our Lady of Peace, with the Infant Jesus on her lap, having on hand an olive branch."
