"In 1982 the Village Art Club began to lease an old native oak and stone barn from Cooper Communities. The barn, located on County Road 40 just east of Highway 71, had a long and varied history. Originally built in 1941, it began life as a dairy barn, and through the years was used to house not only cattle, but buffalo as well!
The metamorphosis from a neglected cattle barn to Wishing Spring Gallery was not an easy one. Two years, a goodly amount of financing (mostly donated), and countless hours of labor by visionary, dedicated volunteers, helped the old barn complete its re-birth! Today, in place of livestock and farm equipment, this graceful old barn houses fine art and fine crafts created with loving detail by members of the Village Art Club of Bella Vista, Arkansas. In 1999 the Cooper family made a generous donation of the Gallery and surrounding five acres to the Club.
The Gallery is open to the public year ’round (extended hours: Sundays after Spring & Fall Festivals, and Sundays from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Closed New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day). Inclement Weather: Gallery closes when local schools are closed.
Artists who exhibit at the Gallery are active members of the Village Art Club of Bella Vista and give their time to work at the Gallery during open hours. Artists who exhibit their work for sale at the Gallery must meet special standards and qualifications, assuring the quality of the fine art and crafts exhibited at the Gallery, as well as commitment to the Village Art Club of Bella Vista."
