The Pennine Bridleway is one of the 15 National Trails in England and Wales. National Trails are designated by the Secretary of State and are administered by Natural England and Natural Resources Wales, and managed by the local authorities and National Park Authorities whose area they pass through.

Originally designed as long distance walking routes, in many places they have been opened up to cyclists and horse riders.

The Pennine Bridleway is a 205 miles (330 Km) long National Trail running through the Pennine hills from Derbyshire to Cumbria. It was the first National Trail to be created for horse riders and cyclists as well as walkers.

This trail head is actually the start of a 27 km link route, that connects the St. Ives country park to the main bridleway in Calderdale.

The start of the this link route is actually in the car park which even has a reserved parking area for horse boxes.

The official web site also actively promotes Geocaching and even has its own specially designed Geocoin.
