Der rechteckige Rathausmarkt vor dem Hamburger Rathaus wurde im Zuge der Wiederaufbauarbeiten nach dem Großen Brand 1842 im Stile des italienischen Markusplatzes in Venedig aufgebaut. Zwischen 1933 und 1945 war er als Adolf-Hitler-Platz benannt.
Heutzutage ist der Rathausmarkt Austragungsort diverser Veranstaltungen, wie zum Beispiel dem Stuttgarter Weindorf, Freilicht Kino und des Hamburger Weihnachtsmarkts.
The rectangular Rathausmarkt, in front of the town hall, has been constructed in 1842 after the Great Fire of Hamburg. It is designed after the Piazza San Marco in Venice. Between 1933 and 1945 it was also called Adolf-Hitler-Platz.
Nowadays, the plaza is famous for various festivities, like the Wine-Village of Stuttgart, Openair-Cinema and the christmas market of Hamburg.
