This is the famous 'Schiffshebewerk' (Boat Lift) of Niederfinow, Germany, Brandenburg. It is listed as a 'Historisches Wahrzeichen der Ingenieurbaukunst' (historical Ingeneering Landmark) and in the German Monument Registers.
The boat lift has been built 1927-34. And it is still in use. It's the oldest boat lift in Germany which is still in use. A new boat lift is actually under construction and will be finished in 2014.
