The observatory is located on Tschuggen hill above Arosa in the Swiss Alps on height of 2050 meters.
It was created in 1939, before there was a temporary station on a neighboring hill for a year. The site was concentrating of solar observations, in particular the corona, sunspots, and solar eclipses.
In 2002 the observatry was abandoned, today it is property of the municipality of Chur.
