This factory provided accessories made out of industry felt for old shotguns. The factory for felt existed from 1849 to 1996 and was founded by Melchior Hess. In good times like 1914 there were more that 150 people employed. When the factory closed in 1996 with only 14 employees left it was Germany's last (animal) hair felt factory. In 2011 the main building was converted into apartments very close to the city center.
Die Fabrik für Gewehrpfropfen aus Filz produzierte hier von 1849 bis 1996. Gegründet wurde die Filzfabrik von Melchior Hess. 1914 waren hier mehr als 150 Menschen beschäftigt, bei der Fabrikschließung 1996 waren es nur noch 14. Die Filzfabrik war Deutschlands letzte (Tier-)Haarfilzfabrik. Nach verschiedenen kurzfristige Nutzungsformen wurde das Hauptgebäude ab 2011 in ein Wohn- und Geschäftshaus umgewandelt, das attraktiv ist durch seine Innenstadtlage.
