Thomas Cooch was born in England and came to America in 1746 where he settled in New Castle County, Delaware. He served in the militia for many years. Serving as a captain in the French and Indian War and then as Colonel in American Revolution. He was the commander of the men from southern New Castle County. The only Revolutionary War battle fought in Delaware was on his property, Battle of Cooch's Bridge. His home was taken over and used as British General Cornwallis' headquarters for 10 days in 1777. He died at his Cooch Bridge home November 16, 1788.
