A plaque on the side of the seating gives the background to the artwork. The boat masts evoke the importance of sea transport in the history & present day of Wollongong. Flagstaff Hill was important for navigation, firstly with the positioning of a flagstaff, then a lighthouse.The flagstaff is symbolised in the artwork as is the beams of the lighthouse.
Chimney stacks reflect the industrial heritage & are still the dominant feature in the Port Kembla area to the south. Further artwork reflects red cedar trunks, convict built hand cut stone, an expanded Belmore Basin harbour & nuns walking down to the Nuns' Baths.
The lookout is at the top of Flagstaff Hill & is reached via the Blue Walk. The views are pleasant & the opportunity of somewhere to sit appreciated.
