This pump has everything it needs to work. It even has a valve to allow water to stay up in the pipe, so that it doesn't have to keep being re-primed. However, during winter months, the valve is opened to allow water to return back down the pipe, and then closed until temperatures stay above freezing. Just for kicks, I pumped it for a while with the valve open, but nothing happened. I'm assuming that it would work if it were primed.
