Safara is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Moura, with 57.62 km ² and 1078 inhabitants (2011). Density: 18.7 inhabitants / km ².
Human occupation of this territory began in the Iron Age, as demonstrated by the existence of a fortified settlement, one of the largest in the Alentejo dated from this period. The Romans and Arabs also marked the territory of the parish, and that the latter were responsible for the name given to that. Safara comes from the Arabic language and has to do with the location of the parish (a large plain), since it means "meadow".
